Overview

The Field Machinist/Welder is responsible for fabricating and repairing components in the field and shop sites.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and operation of a variety of field machining equipment, including services such as pipe beveling and cutting, line boring, flange facing, among other creative applications.
  • Read prints, viewing dimensions and samples to repair and/or assemble metal parts.  
  • Assemble all components with the help of power and hand tools.  
  • Re-machine parts to repair and maintains critical dimensions.  
  • Use stationary and portable boring equipment and machine tools as well as multiple other types of tooling to meet specific job needs.
  • Aligning gear cases and motors. 
  • Heat treating parts as required. 
  • Testing the hardness of materials. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to use N.D.T (Magnetic particle and die penetrant). 
  • Inspects completed work to determine structural soundness and fit to mechanical part.  
  • Ensure proper dimensions, compliance and tolerance levels of finished product is defect free.  
  • Cleans and maintains portable machining and welding equipment. 
  • Complete all job responsibilities while adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.   
  • 3+ years of experience working on heavy equipment as Field Technician required. 
  • Valid CDL license and a safe driving record required. 
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and proper repair procedures is required. 
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, operating and maintenance service manuals. 
  • Possess knowledge in various areas, including gearing, bearings, seals, bushings, and hydraulics. 
  • Must have a complete set of tools capable of working in and around heavy equipment. 
  • Must be proficient in welding and cutting of all types 
  • Possess a proficient understanding of metallurgy and its application to machining 
  • Able to operate forklifts, overhead cranes and earthmoving equipment is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, organization and ability to prioritize tasks is required.
  • Possess strong problem solving skills, have the ability to set and keep priorities and be able to handle stress associated with a fast paced environment and deadlines.

Working Conditions:

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work primarily outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.  
  • Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to injury and/or hazardous materials. 
  • Job requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, lifting. 
  • Physical use of a broad variety of tools and machines in order to maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment.  
  • Must be able to lift varied weight.  
  • Seeing, reading, and writing to complete job responsibilities. 
  • Use of computer and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
